Meet Mermaid The Baby Goat

Mermaid was the second baby goat born this year.  Since we sold her older brother, that makes her the oldest baby goat in our barn.

Mermaid is a two-tone chamoisee, but what makes her unusual is that she has white legs. Most of our two-tone chamoisee goats have black legs like Valencia.

Usually most of our baby goats are born at the end of February and the late ones are born in March.  But this past Fall, we started breeding season later than usual.   That meant most of the goats wouldn’t be born until March.

Because Indigo’s birthday is February 23, she usually has a baby goat born on her birthday. This year because of the later due dates, we were all worried that Indigo would not have a baby goat born on her birthday.  So we all prayed that of of the goats would go into labor on Indigo’s birthday.

Guess what?

On February 23,  Myna Bird went into labor and gave us triplets.  We named the first baby goat Marcus, the second baby goat Mermaid, and the third baby goat Minerva (we called her Minnie.)

Minerva and Marcus are both sold but we still have Mermaid.

So as you can see Mermaid is pretty unique.
